Mission president serving in France dies at age 54

France Lyon Mission President Jason Michael Soulier from the Salt Lake East Mill Creek Stake dies unexpectedly in his sleep on Saturday, Dec. 28

France Lyon Mission President Jason Michael Soulier died unexpectedly in his sleep on Saturday, Dec. 28. He had been feeling ill for a few days before his death, but an official cause of death is still to be determined.

The death of President Soulier, 54, from the Salt Lake East Mill Creek Stake, was acknowledged in a Newsroom statement from Sam Penrod, spokesman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

President Soulier and Sister Jennifer H. Soulier, his wife and mission companion, began their service as mission leaders in June 2024.

“We express our love and deepest sympathies to President Soulier’s family and all the missionaries in the France Lyon Mission during this difficult time,” Penrod said. “We pray all will feel the Savior’s love as they honor and remember President Soulier’s faithful service.”

President Soulier had previously served as a stake presidency counselor, mission presidency counselor, mission executive secretary, high councilor, bishop, bishopric counselor, ward mission leader, ward Young Men president and missionary in the Switzerland Geneva Mission. He was born in Richmond, Virginia, to Michael Wesley Soulier and Barbara Frost Soulier.

President Soulier is survived by his wife and their four adult children.

Elder James W. McConkie III — a General Authority Seventy and second counselor in the Europe Central Area presidency — and his wife, Sister Laurel McConkie, are traveling to Lyon to support Sister Soulier and provide temporary leadership of the mission, which currently has approximately 200 full-time missionaries serving.
