This week on social: Transforming homes into sanctuaries of faith

From striving for peace to finding peace in the temple, Church leaders share messages of encouragement this week on social media

“True disciples are peacemakers,” said President Russell M. Nelson in an Instagram post this week, On June 14, he invited people to leave comments on his post sharing their experiences with peacemakers in their lives. “I look forward to reading your comments,” he said.

On the same day on Facebook, President Nelson posted a video about the duty that disciples of Christ have to be peacemakers.

June 8, Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson asked, “How would our lives change if we valued the opinion of the Savior over that of anyone else?”

President Henry B. Eyring, second counselor in the First Presidency, posted a similar message as President Nelson — “Blessed are the peacemakers,” he said on Facebook. He tweeted another response speaking of the light others will feel when members offer them peace.

Young Women General President Bonnie H. Cordon posted about a For the Strength of Youth conference in Denton, Texas, on June 12.

On Facebook, June 14, Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke of the experience he and Sister Harriet Uchtdorf have had visiting temples throughout the world. “Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are sacred spaces where one can feel especially close to heaven and rejoice in the influence of the Holy Ghost,” Elder Uchtdorf said.

Sister Michelle D. Craig, first counselor in the Young Women general presidency, posted on June 14 about linking arms with Christ and others when building lives.

Reflecting on his experience leading tours at the new Bentonville Arkansas Temple, Elder David A. Bednar of Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said on June 13, “Arkansas holds a special place in our hearts because it is where we raised our family and spent roughly two decades of our lives.

On June 14, Sister Rebecca L. Craven, second counselor in the Young Women general presidency, posted a video with the question: “How do you know that anything about the Church is true?” 

In a Facebook post on June 11, Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, spoke of his experience visiting the historic Port Arthur prison in Tasmania, Australia, and the lessons he learned about Christ there.

On June 11, Primary General President Susan H. Porter shared a video talking about what she did when she felt things weren’t going the way she hoped them to go. “I think in our lives we often feel the sun might be going down on our hopes and dreams as we face difficult trials.”

Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke about the power of speaking and testifying of Jesus Christ, in a Facebook post June 14: “If ever you wonder what to say, speak the words of the Savior. Speak of His experiences; speak of His parables; speak the words of scripture and of the prophets testifying of Him.”

And on Instagram that same day, Elder Andersen shared a video of a recent broadcast he had spoken in. “I explained the power that comes through teaching about Jesus Christ and His pure doctrine,” Elder Anderson said.

Sister Amy A. Wright, first counselor in the Primary general presidency, talked about waiting on the Lord on June 15.

On June 9, Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared a video on social media about his experience speaking about human dignity at the Worldwide Congress of Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue in Argentina.

On June 14, Sister Tracy Y. Browning, second counselor in the Primary general presidency, shared advice on ways to put God first.

“Setting goals is good. However, setting goals as a way to seek and act upon personal revelation is GREAT,” said Brother Bradley R. Wilcox, first counselor in the Young Men general presidency, on June 15. He continued, “When God asks you to do something difficult ... you will have to turn to Him for strength.”

On June 9, Sunday School General President Mark L. Pace asked: “How can we make our hearts and homes real-life sanctuaries? How can we turn them into safe harbors, where we can find refuge from the relentless attacks of the adversary?”
