This week, more than 10,000 youth, single adults, family members and friends from around Utah served by packaging meals for individuals in the state of Utah who are experiencing food insecurity. Young Men General President Steven J. Lund, Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman, and other leaders and advisory council members spent hours volunteering on Tuesday night, Jan. 14.
In this video, titled “1 Million Meals,” President Lund and President Freeman share some of their observations from their night volunteering with youth.
The service project was organized as part of the Silicon Slopes Summit 2025 with the Utah Area presidency and JustServe. It was the fifth time the group has come together to support the Utah Food Bank through such an activity.
President Freeman said she could feel the joy of those serving when she arrived at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, where the event took place.
And President Lund applauded the youth for doing more than just talk about the need that exists in the community.

“The youth of today don’t want to talk about doing good, and they don’t want to be hypothetical. They want to get their hands dirty and get out and actually be part of the solution,” he said.
As of Friday, Jan. 17, Silicon Slopes announced that volunteers had surpassed their goal and packaged nearly 1.1 million meals for those in need.
