Groundbreaking of the San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple

Elder Sean Douglas — a General Authority Seventy and second counselor in the Church’s Mexico Area presidency — presided over the San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple’s groundbreaking ceremony on March 9, 2024.

In his remarks to those in attendance, Elder Douglas cited Alma 26:37 from the Book of Mormon: “God is mindful of every people.” He pleaded in his dedicatory prayer on the site, “Help us to increase our commitment to keep our covenants.”

The San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple is scheduled to be dedicated Nov. 1, 2026, by Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Church President Russell M. Nelson announced a temple for San Luis Potosí, Mexico, on April 3, 2022, during April 2022 general conference. It was one of 17 temples announced at the conference — and the 18th for Mexico.

Ground was broken for the San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple on March 9, 2024, with Elder Sean Douglas — a General Authority Seventy and second counselor in the Church’s Mexico Area presidency — presiding.

Open house
A public open house for the temple will be held from Sept. 24 to Oct. 10, 2026. A media day was also held Sept. 21, and invited guests toured the building Sept. 22-23, 2026.

Dedication
Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple on Nov. 1, 2026, during a single session.

The San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple was announced by Church President Russell M. Nelson on April 3, 2022. The groundbreaking and site dedication were held on March 9, 2024, and presided over by Elder Sean Douglas, second counselor in the Church’s Mexico Area presidency.

After a public open house from Sept. 24 to Oct. 10, 2026, the San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple will be dedicated Nov. 1, 2026, by Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Architecture and Design of the San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple

A single-story building of approximately 9,300 square feet, the San Luis Potosí temple stands on a 3.9-acre site at Arboledas 100, Fraccionamiento Del Parque, El Parque, 78260 San Luis Potosí, in the state of San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

One common design in the art-glass windows is that of the native chocolate cosmos flower. Rugs and furniture throughout the temple show deep blues, reds and floral designs, then lighter blues and creams are used in the celestial and sealing rooms.
