Church’s Central America Area presidency delivers Christmas messages in video

Each Church leader gives a message about sharing the light of Christ during the Christmas season

The Central America Area presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released a YouTube video on Dec. 1 with a Christmas message and an invitation for members to participate in the Light the World initiative.

The video featured messages from each member of the area presidency, all General Authority Seventies — Elder Taylor G. Godoy, president; Elder Patricio M. Giuffra, first counselor; and Elder Ryan K. Olsen, second counselor; as well as music performed by father and daughter Daniel and Tayra Hernández, Miguel Chitay, and the group, Khaya Street, which includes cousins Christopher Morales, Neal Morales and Alan Morales.

Elder Godoy testified that no matter how dark things may seem, Jesus Christ can give light, hope and joy.

“The birth of Jesus Christ is the true reason why we celebrate during this season. He has the power to save us. His light exerts a positive influence on people. If we allow it, He can mark a before and after in our lives,” he said. “Regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in and despite our challenges, Jesus Christ is the light that dispels all fear and is the light that offers security and guidance.”

The Church, through its Light the World initiative, invites all people to extend the light of Christ in ways that are simple yet powerful, Elder Godoy said.

“Everyone is welcome to participate in Light the World by loving, sharing joy, and following the example of Jesus Christ. He is the true reason for this celebration,” he said. “He is the Light of the World, our Savior, our Redeemer, the Prince of Peace.”

Elder Giuffra said that during the Christmas season, many struggle with employment or the loss of a loved one. Help comes in the form of the Savior’s hope, peace and love, such as visiting a sick friend, renewing an old friendship or reconciling with estranged family members. It may seem small and insignificant, but for others, it can mean the world.

“This is the time when we demonstrate that we are Christians, that we believe in a Christ who brought peace and love,” he said. “Emulate the example of Jesus Christ and do something for someone.”

Elder Olsen said sharing the light and hope of the Christmas season can bring us happiness.

“I invite you to serve others, to be the light — the light that is Christ in loving and ministering to others,” he said.
