More than 1,000 people attended an interfaith Easter musical devotional titled “He Lives!” (“¡Él Vive!”) hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on March 19.
The first-of-its-kind event featured participation from several different Christian denominations and was held at Aula Magna of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo). News of the event was first reported on the Church’s Caribbean Newsroom.
The event will be broadcast on the Iglesia de Jesucristo Caribe YouTube channel and the television networks Telesistema and Teleantillas on Good Friday, April 3, at 7 p.m. There will also be a special broadcast on Color Visión on Easter Sunday, April 5, at 6 p.m.

The production is part of the Church’s global “Greater Love” Easter campaign, a initiative during Holy Week.

Numerous interfaith, civil and government leaders attended the event, including María Ramos Agramonte, attorney general of the Santo Domingo Court of Appeals; Benny Metz, president of the National Disability Council (CONADIS); Yolanda Castillo, director of human resources at the Ministry of the Presidency; and Eva Fernández, advisor to the Ministry of Education.

The devotional featured the music and talents of choirs from the Catholic Church, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Dominican National Children’s Choir and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Each choir and group performed music and artistic expressions focused on Jesus Christ.

Elder Corbitt emphasized in a closing message that faith in Jesus Christ enables people to unite in purpose and hope despite their differences. He spoke about the importance of living principles such as love for one another, service and unity.

“We live in a world that often emphasizes differences, that divides and separates,” Elder Corbitt said. “But Jesus Christ invites us to something higher: to love one another, to understand one another and to walk together. What we have experienced tonight shows that when faith and goodwill come together, we can find harmony. In Him, we are one.”
Attendees enjoyed musical performances by several choirs. A choir from the Seventh-day Adventist Church sang “Via Dolorosa.”

The Dominican National Children’s Choir, directed by Maestro Ángel Herdz, performed “Dona Nobis Pacem,” “Magnificat” and “Resurrexit.”
A choir of Latter-day Saints from the Santo Domingo Dominican Republic Central Stake performed Kenneth Cope’s “His Hands” and “Never a Better Hero” as well as “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”

The Fe y Alegría Foundation Choir, representing the Catholic Church, performed “Ave Verum Corpus” and “Anima Christi.”
A few days earlier, Elder Montoya and Elder Corbitt visited Monsignor Carlos Tomás Morel Diplán, coadjutor archbishop of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo and the presiding Roman Catholic Church leader in the Dominican Republic. The Church leaders expressed their admiration and support for the social work provided by the Catholic Church through Cáritas and Fe y Alegría, both global Catholic humanitarian organizations.
