During the week of Jan. 14 to Jan. 20, Church leaders shared what they have learned from President Russell M. Nelson on the sixth anniversary of his becoming Church President. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles held his third Instagram Live question-and-answer session.

Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles joined Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman and Young Men General President Steven J. Lund on Instagram Live to discuss the upcoming worldwide youth discussion on discipleship. The First Presidency announced changes to the Presidency of the Seventy.

The First Presidency released the open-house and dedication dates for three temples and the location of the Cuernavaca Mexico Temple. Elder K. Brett Nattress spoke at a BYU devotional, and President Brian K. Ashton and his wife, Sister Melinda Ashton, spoke at a BYU–Pathway Worldwide devotional. Beginning this month, all young service missionaries are becoming part of teaching missions under the leadership of mission presidents

In an effort to mark the six-year anniversary of President Nelson’s prophetic leadership, the Church News invited members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, as well as leaders of the Relief Society, Young Women and Primary, to share the leadership qualities they have observed from the Prophet.

Elder Christofferson dedicated the Lima Peru Los Olivos Temple on Jan. 14. This is the fourth temple dedicated in Peru and the second dedicated in the city of Lima.

5. Elder Stevenson and Young Women and Young Men general presidents discuss upcoming worldwide youth broadcast

Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles joined Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman and Young Men General President Steven J. Lund on Instagram Live on Thursday, Jan. 18, to discuss the upcoming worldwide youth discussion on discipleship.

The week’s Church News podcast featured President Lund and President Freeman as they speak about the Church’s 2024 youth theme declares, “I am a disciple of Jesus Christ” (3 Nephi 5:13). Also, this week the Young Men general presidency launched Young Men Worldwide social media accounts.

6. First Presidency announces changes to Presidency of the Seventy

The First Presidency announced Wednesday, Jan. 17, two changes to the Presidency of the Seventy: Elder Carl B. Cook, a General Authority Seventy who has served in the presidency since 2018, will now serve as the senior president, and Elder Marcus B. Nash, a General Authority Seventy and executive director of the Church’s Missionary Department, has been appointed to the presidency.

7. First Presidency announces dedication and open house dates for 3 temples, with site released for Cuernavaca Mexico Temple

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the open-house and dedication dates for three new houses of the Lord in the Americas — the Taylorsville Utah Temple in North America, the Cobán Guatemala Temple in Central America and the Salta Argentina Temple in South America.

The First Presidency also released the location of the Cuernavaca Mexico Temple, one of 24 houses of the Lord for the North American nation.

8. BYU and BYU–Pathway devotionals

Speaking to students and faculty gathered in the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah, on Tuesday, Jan. 16, Elder K. Brett Nattress noted that most of his listeners will never come face to face with a crocodile or be asked to exercise faith by entering muddy waters with danger lurking in the shadows. “Instead, you have your own crocodiles to deal with. These challenges may come in many forms: exams, papers, social media, evil influences, illness, depression and, of course, relationships.”

During a devotional broadcast on Tuesday, Jan. 16, BYU–Pathway Worldwide President Brian K. Ashton and his wife, Sister Melinda Ashton, reiterated the Prophet’s invitation and encouraged students to apply it to education.
